OE-QuoteFix - FAQ
OE-QuoteFix appears to work correctly - i.e. my automatically inserted signature is moved, the quote header gets modified, etc. - but when I send off the message, the quoting is still messed up. How come? You did not follow the instructions in the readme file. Your wrap column settings in Outlook Express are incorrect.
See readme - usage - options (message composition)
Why do the links have the same color as the surrounding text? Shouldn't they all be blue or some other color? No, they were colored on purpose, because I like it like that. If you don't, you're free to change the style sheet.
See readme - usage - options (coloring)
Why doesn't the message composition window get colored? It's not supposed to get colored.
Actually, I could color the message composition window with 3 lines of code - I've already tried it. The trouble is, I would have to re-color it *all the time*, or else - if you write in between quoted passages - the text you type will be colored the same as the quoted part. And if I re-colored everything all the time, I would need to constantly reposition the cursor (after re-coloring it would be at the bottom), which I can't do since I have no easy way of finding out where it was. And even if I could, people who type fast would get annoyed because it would surely happen that text is inserted at the bottom...
See what I'm getting at? It's impossible to do it properly... And if it can't be done properly, better not do it at all.
OE-QuoteFix doesn't seem to save any of the settings I change - they're back to the defaults when I reboot. What's wrong? The settings are saved whenever you [terminate] OE-QuoteFix or if OE-QuoteFix is terminated automatically because OE is closed (in case Depend on OE is selected). You could've read the readme file more attentively :)
There is an uninstaller listed in the start menu but when I click on it, it's not there and Windows tries to search for it. How come? You uninstalled OE-QuoteFix and then reinstalled it to the same directory without rebooting in between. The next reboot killed the uninstaller. If you intend to install to the same directory anyway, do not uninstall, simply install over the previous version. Don't worry, it doesn't result in a mess, the installer will clean up everything beforehand.
OE-QuoteFix works perfectly with email but news messages never seem to get processed. It always says 'skipped (done)' in the log list. Why?It is very likely that your version of OE was modified; perhaps you are using a patched version of inetres.dll to modify the quote header?
When I forward messages, OE-QuoteFix doesn't do anything. Is that intentional?Yes, it is.
Why don't I get RFC compliant signature delimiters?See readme - known issues
I am a top poster and I don't use a signature. Is there still a way of getting an empty line at the top when I reply?Yes! It's quite simple: You need to use a custom header that has a line break (\n) at the very beginning. You could even add several empty lines if you want.
